
Rigoberto Mateos, an architect by profession and an artisan by trade and conviction, belongs to the sixth generation of a family tradition of pottery artisans in Tonalá. Since 2008, he has developed his craft in his workshop, producing professional and personalized works. He specializes in the technique of black clay sgraffito, balancing innovation with tradition. He remains informed about the development of folk art locally, nationally, and internationally.
Rigoberto is part of the “Herencia Milenaria” collective of traditional and contemporary artists in Tonalá. He has trained at the National School of Ceramics and participated in various folk art events, such as the Maestros del Arte Popular Fair. He has been featured in exhibitions at state, national, and international levels, such as “Tonalá in California,” “La Cocina,” at the Museum of the Americas in Denver, Colorado, and “The black clay sgraffito of Tonalá, a transgenerational and millenary heritage,” at the Juan José Arreola State Public Library of Jalisco.
He played a significant role in the first and second editions of the Premio con Causa Azul, in partnership with Fundación Causa Azul A.C. and the Escucha Mi Voz project.
